Nevis woman gets 90 days in alcohol-related crash that disabled best friend
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

A Nevis woman will spend 90 days in jail this fall for the February drunken driving accident that seriously injured her best friend.

Angela Michelle Colburn, 27, was sentenced Monday in Hubbard County District Court.

She will be on supervised probation for three years. She must pay restitution of $1,100 to the mother of a teenage girl who collided with her vehicle, which had pulled out onto County Road 18 into traffic.

She told deputies that arrived on the scene she and Tammy Basswood had been drinking since 10 a.m. that day.

Basswood remains disabled as a result of the crash.

Colburn must undergo a chemical dependency test, write letters of apology to the victims and refrain from using alcohol during her probation period. She was also ordered to pay a $500 penalty assessment.

Colburn pleaded guilty to Criminal Vehicular Operation causing "substantial bodily injury" and Second Degree DWI.
