Nevis two hours late today; Park Rapids and Menahga on time
Park Rapids schools and buses will begin on time today, Wednesday, for the first time all week.
Hazardous ice prompted school officials to close schools Monday and Tuesday when busing 1,200 of the district's kids became impossible.
Nevis buses are running two hours late today; Menahga is running on time.
The region will get some scattered snowfall, said National Weather Service meteorologist Peter Rogers. It shouldn't amount to more than a dusting, he said.
But that dusting of snow will conceal some treacherous ice, Rogers said.
Temperatures today will hover around the freezing mark but will begin dropping later in the day.
"Our main concern is that the standing water will begin refreezing and motorists won't be able to see them under the snow," he said. "It will give drivers a false sense of traction and they could hit those icy spots and spin out."
The region is under a hazardous weather outlook for that very reason, Rogers said.
