Although some may have been content with just the free spaghetti dinner, Nevis school officials were celebrating something altogether different Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The lengthy construction project that has been endured over the past six months is finally over.

Promoted as a celebratory ribbon cutting and an unveiling of their new early-childhood development wing, the event began at 6 p.m. with a free spaghetti and cake dinner provided by the Nevis Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

All in attendance were encouraged to walk around the entire building and marvel at the numerous additions and renovations around the school.

The event concluded at 7 p.m. when school board chairman Ed Becker gave a brief speech, officially unveiling the wing with a ceremonious ribbon cutting.

“For many people here, their taxes dollars made all of this possible. I truly believe we have our major building needs covered for the next 10 years. Now that everything is done we just wanted to say thanks, open the doors, and let everyone come and check it out,” Superintendent Steve Rassier said.

Principal John Strom mimicked Rassier’s sentiment.

“Many people here tonight have students currently in the school, but also a lot do not. The community has been so incredibly supportive throughout the entire process we just wanted to take tonight to show-off what we have finished and say thanks,” Strom said.
