Nevis girls run past Laporte for conference win

The Nevis girls basketball team jumped out to a 33-6 halftime lead en route to a 57-14 Northwoods Conference victory over Laporte Friday night at the Tiger Arena.

Riley Hanson had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots while Megan Norby added 12 points to lead the Tigers. Mattie Hjelseth led Nevis with six steals and five assists. Nevis compiled 31 steals and had 18 assists on 24 field goals.

The win lifted the Tigers to 6-4 in the conference and 8-9 overall while Laporte fell to 0-10 in conference games and 1-14 overall.

PR-B stays perfect in conference

Four players scored in double figures as Pine River-Backus remained undefeated in Northwoods Conference play with a 70-47 win over the Tigers last Tuesday night at Pine River.

Tatum Sheley (17), Brittany Kelley (12), Megan Felthous (12) and Autumn Ackerman (11) led a balanced scoring attack for PR-B, which jumped out to a 44-14 halftime lead. PR-B improved to 9-0 in the conference and 13-2 overall.

Hanson's 16 points and 13 rebounds led the Tigers. Kate Dierkhising hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points and joined Hanson and Hjelseth with three steals each. Norby led the way with four assists.
