Nevis Farmers Market debuts Saturday
The first Nevis Farmers Market of the season, sponsored by the Nevis Chamber of Commerce, will be held at the mural lawn at Terrapin Station from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26.
The market will feature local fresh produce, honey, furniture, home décor, baked goods and more.
To kick off the season with a festive atmosphere, there will be music on the mural lawn.
As part of the entertainment, local author Judy Merritt will be reading from her recently published novel, "Ghost Dancer." At 11:30 a.m. she will read the chapter, "Initiation at Bear Butte" with Brian Skinness accompanying her on the drums; and at 12:30 p.m. Merritt will read "Dear Prudence" with Skinness accompanying this chapter on guitar.
Three and a half years in the writing, "Ghost Dancer" chronicles the extraordinary dream journey of Spotted Weasel, the ghost of a Lakota Ghost Dancer. Spotted Weasel's dreams include the present (1986) landscape of rural South Dakota and the people who lived there, the timeless and mysterious world of the Lakota Great Spirits and the stone temples and people from an ancient past.
Three of its chapters won fiction awards in regional contests.
