Taylor Chase's triple-double led the way as the Nevis boys basketball team picked up a pair of Northland Conference victories.
Chase scored 29 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had six assists in leading the Tigers to a 77-54 win over Laporte last Friday night. Gavin Becker, Griffin Chase and Jake Keranen scored 10 points each while Keranen and Becker had six rebounds apiece. Courtland Chase dished out seven assists while Becker had five assists for the Tigers, who led 40-30 at the half.
Taylor Chase had 28 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in leading the Tigers to an 83-67 win over Cass Lake Tuesday night. Becker chipped in 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Keranen had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Griffin Chase also hit double figures with 11 points and had three assists as the Tigers overcame a 44-35 halftime deficit.
"This was a game of two very different halves. Cass Lake came ready to play and outplayed us in every area in the first half. We did not defend very well and offensively we played sloppy and settled for way too many low-percentage shots," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "We made some adjustments at halftime and started the second half on a 23-4 run to take control of the game."
Those two wins lifted Nevis to 8-3 in the conference and 12-6 overall.
