     Bailey Mueller carded a career-best 73 to earn medalist honors and lead the Park Rapids boys golf team to runner-up honors at last Wednesday’s Mid-Minnesota Conference meet at Deacon’s Lodge.

     Mueller took first at the No. 2 player spot and Ian Johnson finished second at the No. 1 player spot with a career-best 76 as the Panthers carded a five-player score of 423 for 39 points. Dustin Bethel (with an 85), Jamie Stewart (with a 95), Ryan DeLaHunt (with a 94) and Cody Brumbaugh (with a 106) all finished fourth in their groups.

     Staples-Motley earned 50 points to lead the way. After two meets, Staples-Motley has 93.3 points while the Panthers are second with 76.5 points.

     United North Central carded a 445 and took fifth with 26 points as Luke Wurdock (with an 81 at the No. 3 spot) and Derek Huotari (with a 104 at the No. 6 spot) finished third in their groups. Arik Hillukka shot an 82 and took fourth at the No. 2 position.

     Jacob Jordan’s 87 tied for second at the No. 4 position as Nevis carded a 476 and earned 17 points.

Team scores: Staples-Motley (392) 50 points, Park Rapids (423) 39 points, Crosby-Ironton (441) 29.5 points, Pequot Lakes (435) 29.5 points, United North Central (445) 26 points, Wadena-Deer Creek (492) 18 points, Nevis (476) 17 points, Pine River-Backus (533) 14 points.

Overall team scores (after two meets): Staples-Motley 93.3, Park Rapids 76.5, Crosby-Ironton 60.8, Pequot Lakes 55.5, United North Central 48, Wadena-Deer Creek 45, Pine River-Backus 35.8, Nevis 26.

Mueller shares medalist honors

     Wednesday’s meet also served as the Deacon’s Lodge Invitational as Mueller shared medalist honors in leading the Panthers to fifth place with a four-player score of 328.

     Staples-Motley led the 12-team field with a 308. UNC finished seventh with a 347 while Nevis was 10th with a 376.
