Mrs. Carroll goes to Washington
Park Rapids Mayor Nancy Carroll is headed for the White House, not via political aspiration but by invitation.
The president of the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities will join three other Minnesota mayors in welcoming German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel Tuesday morning, June 7 on the south lawn of the White House.
Her invitation comes at the suggestion of Minneapolis Mayor R. T. Rybak, Carroll said.
"This is unbelievable," she said, "an experience of a lifetime."
Carroll plans to leave Monday and return Wednesday, staying with relatives while in the nation's capital.
The invitation states the gate opens at 6:45 a.m. and closes promptly at 8 a.m.
The arrival ceremony will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
As for attire, she'll be in conservative business clothes. "No ball gown."
