Moorhead bus driver arrested on charges of possessing child pornography
A 50-year-old bus driver who was contracted to run Moorhead school routes is facing child pornography charges, accused of having more than 1,000 images at his home - including one of a one-year-old being sexually abused.
Police didn't realize that Eric Gunnar Johnson, 210 N.W. 2nd St., was a school-bus driver until a search warrant was executed at his home Wednesday, said Dilworth Police Chief Dave Miller.
Johnson's son told police about his father's occupation, according to charges filed Friday in Clay County District.
Upon learning that, the decision was made to immediately arrest Johnson, Miller said. Police arrested him at a Moorhead school on Wednesday, he said.
Thirteen counts of possessing child pornography were filed against Johnson, who made an initial court appearance this morning.
His bail was set at $30,000 bond or $3,000 cash, according to court documents.
An officer from the Minneapolis Police Department on Minnesota's Internet Crimes Against Children task force and a Homeland Security officer in Grand Forks tipped off area police, Miller said.
The initial investigation hasn't revealed any issues with children on any of the bus routes Johnson drove, Miller said.
Johnson, who worked for Moorhead bus contractor Richards Transportation Services, had no criminal record, Miller said.
"The bus company would have never been aware of it. The school would have never been aware of it," he said.
