Minnesota football player arrested after team's bowl loss
University of Minnesota offensive lineman Ryan Wynn was arrested in Arizona in the hours following the team's Insight Bowl loss to Iowa State on New Year's Eve.
The 20-year-old was charged with alcohol consumption by a minor, a misdemeanor.
Tempe police spokesman Steve Carbajal told the Star Tribune that officers observed symptoms of alcohol impairment and administered a breath test that resulted in the reading of 0.172 percent.
He says if Wynn was a local resident he would have been cited after agreeing to show up at his court date. But he was held overnight because he was from out of town.
Wynn did not play this season due to back problems that required surgery.
Gophers athletic director Joel Maturi says the team will deal with the situation, "as we deal with all of the issues that some of our young people get involved with."
