Mildred A. Johnson, 88, of Park Rapids, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1920 in Henning to Julius and Martina (Hanson) Poulson. She graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis.
She married Russell K. Johnson in a home ceremony on July 3, 1941. She worked at Powers Department Store in St. Louis Park and then at Scared Design. She retired in 1979. In St. Louis Park she attended Westwood Lutheran Church where she was active in circle and taught Sunday school. They lived in St. Louis Park until 1979 when they moved to their lake home on 2nd Crow Wing Lake. In 1993 they moved to Green Acres in Henrietta Township. She belonged to homemakers and was active at Calvary Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Karen (Bill) Anderson, of Nevis; daughter-in-law, Cathie; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Steven; an infant great-grandson, Lance Petersen, Jr.; and brothers, John (Bud), and George Poulson; an infant sister, Hazel Marie; and a sister, Lillian Poulson.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Rev. Ken Nyhusmoen as officiant. Special music will be "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "The Lord's Prayer." Congregational hymns will be "Abide With Me" and "A Mighty Fortress."
Inurnment: Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, south of Dorset.
