Mikel E. Semmler, 66, Salmon, Idaho passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Discovery Care Center in Salmon, Idaho.

Mikel was born Aug. 23, 1947 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids, to Mike Semmler and Laura Semmler (Shortridge). He was the oldest of three boys. Mike grew up in Akeley and that is where he met his first wife, Vicki Brown. To this union a son, was born, Sundown Semmler.

He later went on to marry two more times, to Bonnie Evertz and at the time of his death, to Karen Westman.

He served in the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War; he did two tours 1967-1969. His exposure to Agent Orange caused diabetes in 2002 and what was believed to cause his pancreatic cancer.

His main goal in life was to retire in Salmon, Idaho, at the home of his son, Sundown. After he retired from the University of Minnesota, he reached that goal in his life. He moved to Salmon and spent the remainder of his life being around his son and his grandchildren, which he cherished greatly.

He is survived by his son, Sundown Semmler (Heidi Nelson); his wife, Karen Semmler; brother, Danny Semmler (Rita Brown); stepmother, Mary Semmler; stepbrother Todd Brown; stepsister, Carmen Brown; nephew, Sean Semmler (Allison Barton); niece, Rochelle Semmler (Willie Krotzer); grandchildren, Deven, Derek and Mason; great- granddaughter Ella; and numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Semmler; mother, Laura Shortridge; and brother, Charles Semmler.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21 at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Salmon, Idaho.

Burial: Salmon Cemetery.

Military honors will be provided by the Idaho Honor Guard and the American Legion Lloyd Shaw Post 67.
