Midway, Wolf Lake advance to region tourney

After winning the Lake and Pine League amateur baseball regular-season title, Midway defeated Wolf Lake 7-1 last Saturday to capture the Lake and Pine League tournament title.

Robert Weaver went 3 for 4 with a run, Drew Rasmussen went 2 for 5 with three runs, Shane Hendrickson went 2 for 5 with a run, and Jake Lund went 2 for 4 with a run to lead Midway's 12-hit attack. Rasmussen, Hendrickson, Zach Etter, Derek Dormanen and Mike Baso had RBIs for the Snurdbirds.

Lund allowed three hits and one unearned run while striking out nine over eight innings for the win. Dormanen pitched a perfect ninth inning as Midway improved to 24-5.

Derek Pihlaja's bunt single, an error and Corey Pudas' RBI single accounted for Wolf Lake's lone run in the sixth.

Wolf Lake earned a spot in the championship game by defeating Huntersville 5-3 last Saturday.

Both teams advance to the Region 16C tournament, which begins today (Saturday) at Perham. Wolf Lake plays Pelican Rapids at 5 while Midway plays either Fergus Falls or Osakis at 2. The tournament concludes next weekend.
