Midway defeats Huntersville, Wolf Lake

  Midway remained undefeated in Lake and Pine League action with three amateur baseball victories last weekend.

     Zach Etter and Brad Lusti combined on a five-hitter as Midway defeated Huntersville 12-2 last Friday night at Menahga. Shane Hendrickson scored three runs, Brett Dormanen went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI, Etter went 2 for 4 with two runs, Jeff Marjamaa went 2 for 3 with two RBI, Drew Rasmussen went 2 for 4 with two runs, Lusti and Robert Weaver drove in two runs apiece, and Sean Dormanen scored two runs as the Snurdbirds had 11 hits in the game. Etter gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts over the first five innings for the win.

     Etter and Weaver drove in five runs apiece in leading Midway to a doubleheader sweep over Wolf Lake Sunday at Midway.

     Etter went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, scored two runs and drove in three runs in leading Midway to a 4-3 win in the first game. Sean Dormanen had the other RBI while Rasmussen and Brett Dormanen scored the other runs for the Snurdbirds. Marjamaa allowed no runs on three hits in four innings of relief for the win. Brett Dormanen started and gave up three runs on six hits in three innings.

     Weaver paced a 13-hit attack by going 2 for 4 with a homer and five RBI in leading Midway to a 15-2 victory in the second game. Steve Wetterling went 2 for 5, Jeff Marjamaa went 2 for 3 with two runs, and Pete Marjamaa and Etter drove in two runs each. Shane Hendrickson, Rasmussen, Sean Dormanen and Etter all scored twice. Stetson Burkman earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight over six innings.

     Midway improved to 14-5 on the season.
