Menahga man hurt in self-inflicted shooting
A Menahga man was injured by an allegedly self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face Friday night.
The Wadena County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a domestic involving a firearm shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, May 18.
Prior to the deputy's arrival, a caller reported shots being fired and a male party sustaining a self-inflicted injury to the head. Upon the arrival of the deputy, the initial suspect, Wayne Petersen, 45, of rural Menahga, was found with a gunshot wound to his face. Petersen was transported St. Joseph's Area Health Services ER and later air lifted to another medical facility. His condition is unknown at this time.
No one else was seriously injured in this incident. The case is currently under investigation by the Wadena County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office was assisted on scene by the Menahga Police Department, Sebeka Police Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Menahga First Responders, and Tri-County Ambulance.
