Menahga girls split conference games

The Menahga girls basketball team split Park Region Conference games with a win over Henning and a loss to Bertha-Hewitt.

Shelby Pihlaja's double-double led the Braves to a 51-36 win over Henning last Thursday night. After a 65-40 loss to Staples-Motley last Friday night, Tarah Cleveland's 19 points led Menahga in a 55-42 loss to Bertha-Hewitt Tuesday night.

Menahga fell to 6-5 in conference play and 9-12 overall.

Braves defeat Henning

Cleveland's 22 points and Pihlaja's 13 points and 10 rebounds led the Braves past Henning.

Cleveland also led the Braves with four assists while Bradi Carlson (5), Pihlaja (4) and Jenny Skoog (3) combined for 12 blocked shots.

Henning fell to 8-3 in the conference and 15-8 overall.

Staples-Motley defeats Braves

Kelly Pearson scored 22 points and Jasmine McGillivray added 15 points in leading Staples-Motley past the Braves.

The win gave the Cardinals, who are rated No. 7 in this week's state Class AA poll, a 16-4 overall record.

Pihlaja's 14 points and three assists, Cleveland's 13 points and four steals, and Skoog's 11 rebounds led the Braves.

Cleveland hit five 3-pointers and Pihlaja added 13 points to lead the Braves in the loss to Bertha-Hewitt.

Skoog led Menahga with 14 rebounds and four assists.
