MELVIN 'MEL' FORD

Melvin "Mel" Jerome Ford, 76, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 at the Heritage Cottages in Park Rapids, after fighting a tough battle with Alzheimer's.

Melvin was born in Longville on Nov. 6, 1936.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Vera; three children, Mark (Laurie), Holly (Joe) and David (Diane); eight grandchildren, Krystal (Jason), Kandi, Aubray (Allen), Kristina, Benjamin, Clara, Andrew, and Travis; and five great-grandchildren, Trey, Dakota, Jordan, Melody and Dominic.

Melvin, one of 13 children, was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marian; brother, Gaylen; and twin brother Merwin.

Melvin is a veteran of the Navy, and worked in construction for most of his life, including, Marv Anderson Homes, Okerman & Hunstead Vanman Construction, and Richard Miller Incorporated. He became vice president of construction for Richard Miller Inc., before he and Vera created and operated, Palmford Construction. He retired in 2001.

Melvin was a very family orientated and caring man. His greatest love was for his wife of 54 years and his family. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, fishing, and traveling with Vera.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Park Rapids.

Visitation: one hour before the service.

A luncheon will be served after the service, followed by the inurnment.

Inurnment: St. Peter's Cemetery.
