Maxine Julian Ennenga

Maxine Julian Ennenga, 77, of rural Ogema, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at her home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Ponsford to George and Josephine (Lightning) Norcross. She was raised and educated in Ponsford.

She married Frank Bigbear Sr. in 1946 in Ponsford. She worked for Helgrens Vegetable Farm near Dilworth and later for Ringer Co. in Park Rapids. She moved to Minneapolis, where she worked as a housekeeper at a number of hotels, as a seamstress for a drapery manufacturing company and for St. Joseph's Free Store. She and Frank divorced.

She married Vern Ennenga in Minneapolis in 1979. He died in 1988. She moved to Detroit Lakes where she took a chef training course at the Detroit Lakes AVTI. She then worked as a prep cook for Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen.

Survivors include seven children: Francis Norcross, of Mahnomen, Sandra (Eugene) Libby, of White Earth, David (Bessie) Norcross, of Seward, Alaska, Frank (Lori) Bigbear Jr., of Minneapolis, Joseph Bigbear, of Minneapolis, Kathy (Darrow) Bigbear, of White Earth, and Harlan "Tony" Bigbear, of White Earth; a granddaughter, which she raised, Harlene Hardy, of White Earth; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ivy Ailport, of White Earth.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Douglas Norcross; three grandchildren: Richard "Weasel" Norcross, Marcell Norcross and Cassandra Norcross; two great-granddaughters; three brothers: William Sr., George and Myron Norcross; and two sisters: Genevieve Rock and Lillian Litzau.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church, Ponsford, with Father Walter Butor OMI officiating.

Visitation: 4 p.m. today (Wednesday), June 17 until the time of the service at Old Pine Point School in Ponsford.

Interment: St. Theodore's Cemetery.
