Ponsford native Marvin M. Conklin, 69, of Gilbert, Minn., died Friday, August 22, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn.
Marvin Maurice Conklin was born to Pearl Andrew and Nancy "Violet" (Stewart) Conklin on Jan. 24, 1939, along with his beloved twin sister, Joann Delores, in Ponsford. He attended school in Ponsford and later at the Detroit Lakes Vocational School, where he was trained in auto body repair. He enlisted with the U.S. Army, and following his military service, Marvin and his family made their home in Gilbert, where he worked for Erie/LTV Mining Companies.
Marvin coached his three sons in Little League and was their No. 1 fan, watching all of their sporting events. Marvin loved spending time visiting and joking with family and friends, especially at Memory Lane Café. He also enjoyed wheeling and dealing with local car dealerships and playing with his loyal companions, Buster and Puppy.
Surviving Marvin are his three loving sons, Marvin "Michael" (Heather Mohr) Conklin of Moorhead, Brian (Shelly Heisler) Conklin of Rice, Minn., and David (Angie) Conklin of Fergus Falls; six grandchildren; brothers, Floyd (Norma) Conklin of Frazee, Wayne Conklin and Orville Conklin, both of Detroit Lakes, Donald Conklin of Gilbert, and Alvin (Joanne) Conklin of Frazee; as well as his twin sister, Joann (Bob) Eliassen of Detroit Lakes.
Preceding Marvin in death were his parents; two infant sisters, Vera and Alice; brothers Clifford, Gordon, Lester and Leon; nephew Larry; and sisters-in law, May, Vergie and Doris.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert, with the Rev. Brenda Tibbetts officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Linnell Cemetery near Ponsford.
