Martini passes 1,000 points, leads Sebeka to win over Panthers
Bridget Martini scored 24 points to surpass 1,000 in her career in leading Sebeka to a 75-41 victory over the Park Rapids girls basketball team last Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.
A jumper by Carson Lee Christenson, layups by Olivia Vaadeland and Hannah Wolff, and a 3-pointer by Wolff gave Park Rapids a 9-7 lead at the 13:25 mark of the opening half.
Martini and Jessica Lillquist combined for 14 points as Sebeka went on a 22-6 run. Wolff scored off a rebound and set up Sophie Shogren for a jumper as the Panthers trailed 29-15 with 4:20 to play in the first half.
A layup by Christenson, two jumpers by Wolff and a jumper by Hailey Lundin kept the Panthers within 35-24 at the break.
Sebeka's press led to four layups to open the second half as the Trojans used a 16-4 run to claim a 51-28 lead with 11:59 to play. A jumper by Lydia Lutz was the only field goal for Park Rapids during that stretch.
Lundin and Lutz scored off rebounds, Shelby Pierce hit a jumper and Melissa Haas scored inside as the Panthers were outscored 17-9 in the final 7:27.
Wolff had 16 points and seven rebounds, Lundin grabbed seven rebounds and had two steals, and Alyssa Carlson had two assists for the Panthers, who had 32 turnovers in falling to 1-6 on the season.
Katie Huttunen (14) and Betsy Olson (12) also scored in double figures for Sebeka, which improved to 5-0 on the season.
