Marshall Canfield Nichols, 72, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Alexandria.

Marshall Canfield Nichols was born March 26, 1941 to Paul and Alice (Gadbow) Nichols in Park Rapids.

Marsh grew up on his family farm near Hubbard, and graduated in 1959 from Park Rapids High School. He spent seven years in the National Guard and continued work in construction from 1961-1965.

Marsh was united in marriage Sept. 17, 1965 to Kathleen Swaggert.

Marsh worked in broadcasting from 1965-2009. Starting with DeLaHunt Broadcasting where he managed KEHG in Fosston and KLLR in Walker.

In 1975, Marsh joined KCMT in Alexandria. He built their FM radio up into the "Country Giant" now KIK. Over these years Marsh broadcast basketball games ending up at the state basketball tournament. He joined KSAX in 1985 when KCMT was sold after the death of its owner. Marsh sold advertising with them until his retirement.

Since 19 years old Marsh was a registered official for the State High School League until 2009. He refereed baseball, basketball, & volleyball. He was the founder and first president of the Fosston Jaycees and belonged to all town clubs promoting his stations.

He is survived by wife of 48 years, Kathleen; four children, Diana, Anne (Gordy), John (Kimberly), and Jim; eight grandchildren, Bryce, Andrew, Alice, Michael, Karolyn, Caitlyn, Ambriella and Kalian.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Nichols, and his mother, Alice (Gadbow) Nichols.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria.
