MARGARET HOWARD

Margaret Elizabeth (Kastner) Howard, 92, of Akeley, passed on to eternal glory Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center in Park Rapids.

She was born Oct. 17, 1921 to Amanda (Dalen) and Herman Kastner in Hackensack. She grew up, attended school and then graduated from Hackensack High School in 1938.

She married Earl (John) Howard March 9, 1957 in Akeley. Margaret was employed by Ringer Sewing Factory in Park Rapids and Badoura State Nursery. In the spring she helped several greenhouses start seedlings.

She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Akeley; enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing and crafts. Together she and John were known as the "Helping Neighbors" always ready to lend a hand. They also enjoyed harvesting wild rice, snowmobiling, picking pine cones, vegetable gardening, berry picking, making Christmas wreaths and working side-by-side in the woods getting up firewood. They were Fire Wardens for 38 years in the Badoura area.

Margaret is survived by her husband, John of 57 years; sons, Jimmy (Chris) of Stevensville Mont. and Terry (Joyce) of Akeley; daughters, Michelle (Norm) Knutson of Columbia Falls Mont., Cindy (Jim) Dietz of Akeley, June (Jerry) Struss of Northome; granddaughters, Kimberly, Mindy, Lisa, Amanda, Kate and Anna; grandsons, Randy, Jonathan, Matthew, Turk, and John; and several precious great-grandchildren.

She will truly be missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by sons, Dennis and Buddy Farrington; sisters, Helen and Irene; brother, Albert and sister-in-law, Arlene; and grandson, Seth Struss.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Akeley.

Visitation: was held one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.

Inurnment: Lemon Cemetery at Badoura Twp.

A luncheon was held at the church following the services.

The family suggests memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Akeley or the St. Joseph's Area Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Friends may leave online condolences at ceasefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids and Nevis.
