Update: Missing 5-year-old from fatal Bemidji fire found alive

Man sleeping inside car struck by drunk driver in Dickinson Wal-Mart parking lot

The Dickinson Rural Fire Department's rescue squad used the Jaws of Life to reach a man after the car he was sleeping in was struck by a drunk driver in a pickup truck shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday in the Dickinson Wal-Mart parking lot.

Two officers from the Dickinson Police Department said the man, who they would not identify, was sleeping inside a Chevrolet Impala when it was struck on its passenger side by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

The man in the car, which had Nevada license plates, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center by the Dickinson Area Ambulance Service. The police officers who responded to the accident said they did not know the man's condition.

The man driving the pickup, which had Wyoming license plates, was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence following field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. Officers said they could not release the driver's identity. They added that the pickup's rate of speed when it struck the car had not been determined.

The rescue squad removed the entire roof of the car to reach the man trapped inside.
