An elderly Princeton, Minn., man was killed on Saturday afternoon in northern Itasca County when the scooter he was driving was hit by a motor vehicle.

The Itasca County Sheriff's Office said Eugene Paul Zeroth, 78, rode his Rascal scooter off the Dora Lake access road into the path of an eastbound vehicle on County Road 29, about 15 miles west of Bigfork. Zeroth was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not named in the news release.

The incident was reported about 12:16 p.m., the news release said.

Neither alcohol nor speed was a factor, an investigator said.
