Man catches a massive wolf in Otter Tail County

Email

An Otter Tail County man will have the "wolf story of a lifetime" to tell the grandkids.

Bruce Hanstad is a longtime trapper, and this week he got one for his personal record book. He trapped this 95-pound Timberwolf northeast of Perham near the Becker County and Otter Tail County line.

The wolf is five and a half feet long. In recent weeks, several wolves have been trapped or hunted in Henning and Deer Creek swamps. Hanstad's dark grey wolf is the largest he has seen or trapped.

The wolf hide will be tanned and the trophy will hang on Hanstad's wall.

This is the first year Minnesota has allowed wolves to be hunted and trapped, after they were removed from the federal endangered species list in January. The Minnesota DNR issued 6,000 permits for 400 animals.
