Concrete work is in full swing and nearing completion on Main Avenue.

"Things are going very smoothly," said project manager Jon Olson. "By the end of next week we could be done with the concrete work."

As for the project as a whole, concrete sidewalk work is completed for the entire phase one. Also, concrete work north of 3rd Street is completed.

The short-range schedule includes completion of decorative sidewalk edging and main line paving wrapping up. Next week, concrete pouring should be completed and cleaning and sealing will continue.

The week after will include cleanup work and connecting pavement from the side streets.

The underground crew is completing work on the east side alleys this week and will replace sanitary sewer on the west side alley between 6th and 7th Streets next week.

Street lighting may be installed later this fall but it won't affect the opening of Main.

If the weather holds and the project continues to move along without a hitch Main Avenue could be open the first week of November, Olson said.

Weekly meetings will continue at 8 a.m. Thursdays at Bella Caffé.
