Mattie Lueck and Vanessa Lane combined for five layups to spark an 18-3 run to open the game and Kayla Miller and Abby Palmer had two layups apiece during a 16-3 run late in the first half to spark Pequot Lakes to an 85-32 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.

After Pequot Lakes took a 12-1 lead, the Panthers used a jumper by Justine Rittgers, a three-point play by Katelyn Hilmanowski, two free throws by Charity Ridlon and a basket off a rebound by Tori Lauderbaugh to stay within 26-10 with 9:27 to play in the first half.

The Patriots followed with a 12-1 run before a jumper by Megan Grimes and two free throws by Grace Bateman made it 40-15 with 4:08 to play. Pequot Lakes ended the half with an 8-0 run to carry a 48-15 advantage into the intermission.

Park Rapids opened the second half with a 3-pointer by Katie Klein and a three-point play by Ridlon to close the gap to 48-21 with 16:48 to play. The Patriots followed with a 10-0 run before a jumper by Hope Johnson and a layup by Ridlon made it 60-25 with 13:02 remaining.

The Panthers managed only baskets by Lauderbaugh, Grimes and Greta Hanson the rest of the way in falling to 0-8 in the conference and 1-16 overall.

Lueck finished with 20 points while Miller and Brittny Bzdok added 13 points each for the Patriots, who improved to 4-3 in the conference and 10-8 overall.
