Losing streak continues for Menahga girls

     A loss to Pillager Friday night extended a losing streak for the Menahga girls basketball team.

     Menahga split games at the Upsala Tournament on Dec. 27-28 with a 72-40 win over Cass Lake-Bena and a 46-32 loss to Holdingford.

     Menahga started 2014 with two close losses to Sebeka (48-47 in a Park Region Conference game on Jan. 3) and Browerville (67-63 in two overtimes on Jan. 7) before dropping a 48-28 decision to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Thursday night and a 47-35 conference decision to Pillager Friday night.

     The Braves are 0-4 in the conference and 3-7 overall.

Braves defeat Cass Lake-Bena

     Hannah Allebach’s 18 points and four steals, Jenny Skoog’s 13 points, 13 rebounds and four steals, and Lakyn Anderson’s four steals and four assists led the Braves past Cass Lake.

     Skoog’s 10 points and eight rebounds led the Braves in the tournament loss to Holdingford.

     Allebach’s 15 points and Stifter’s 11 points led the Braves in the double-overtime loss to Browerville.

     Skoog added 10 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and three blocks while Lake dished out five assists.

     W-H-A’s defense held the Braves to their season low Thursday night.

     Paige Leifermann (11), Sarah Nerurer (10), Lacy Hiltner (8), Carly Bell (8) and Gabby Martin (7) led a balanced scoring attack as Pillager defeated the Braves.
