Long Lake Theater food shelf benefit adds 10-Minute Play Festival to line-up
We ape, we mimic,
we mock. We act.
Theatrical wannabes will have the opportunity to take the stage when Long Lake Theater hosts the second annual Fill Hubbard's Cupboard and (new this year) 10-Minute Play Festival, benefiting the Hubbard County Food Shelf.
Owners Bruce Bolton and Shannon Geisen Bolton are recruiting performers - writers, musicians and comedians - for open mike performances at 7 p.m. Saturday nights through September.
Local playwrights, actors and directors - novice and professional - are encouraged to submit proposals for the play festival. The plays can be original or a scene from a published theatrical production.
Regional bands will also perform each Saturday night with Fran Gack on stage Sept. 5; the folk-grass musical group, Alabaster Falls, arriving Sept. 12; County 20 returning Sept. 19 and the Taffetas performing Sept. 26.
Admission to this serendipitous collage of entertainment is a donation of cash or non-perishable food items for the food shelf.
Food shelf usage continues to be strong, according to director Dave Long. Last month the Hubbard County Food Shelf poundage distribution was up more than 12 percent from July 2008.
It's sure to be a September to remember.
