Local Republicans back Santorum

Hubbard County Republicans solidly backed presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who earned 66 percent of the 274 votes cast in the county's straw poll vote Tuesday night.

Santorum received 182 votes, Newt Gingrich 40, Ron Paul 38 and Mitt Romney 13. One write-in ballot was cast.

The Park Rapids caucus nearly mirrored the county results with Santorum receiving 75 of the 116 votes, 65 percent. Gingrich earned 21 votes, Paul 12, and Romney, 7.
