Letters: Proud to be part of Maninga memorial
We want to thank the Enterprise and Sarah Smith for the excellent coverage and photos on the Howard Maninga memorial to all veterans of past wars our country has been involved in. Our area's Star of the North Marine Corps League Detachment 1109 is proud to have been a part of Howard and Trudy Maninga's development, construction and program that the family has established over the past five years.
It is a patriotic memorial and program involving all branches of the service and included flag raising, flag replacement and honorable burning of the flags of all our country's military services. It also included music, singing and readings by the Maninga family. The U.S. Marine Corps League rifle burial team's 21-gun salute, with the playing of the bugle and drum by Ray Vaadeland and Sandy Eberhart respectably add another fine expression to this memorial, which is as great as any big city's event. It is something many should witness in honoring all veterans. The food at program's end is a feast for all who attend.
A special thanks to all veterans of the VFWs and the American Legion for their participation in this annual August affair. If you have not attended, try to make it in August 2010. It is open to the public. See you next year. Semper fi!
Ron Masanz, Star of the North Marine Corps League Detachment 1109
