Letters: Easy decision not always right
The Park Rapids School board is currently debating whether or not to end the German language program. The easy decision in this case is not to replace Mrs. Linda Uscola who is retiring, thus saving on payroll costs. This would force the German students, who make up a majority of the students enrolled in foreign language, to switch to Spanish. Logically this huge influx would require an additional Spanish teacher to handle more than double the number of students. It would also require the school to purchase new books and material. A new German teacher on the other hand would likely be paid significantly less than the retiring, tenured Uscola and would have all resources in place. Sometimes the easy decision isn't always the right one.
