On behalf of the Park Rapids Urban Forestry Committee, I would like to express our appreciation to all of the volunteers who came out last Saturday morning to help make the Community Landscape Planting Event a success.
It was a chilly fall morning, but over 25 dedicated volunteers showed up with shovels ready to plant 35 new boulevard trees along Highways 34 and 71.
Funding for the trees and planting material was provided through a Community Landscape Partnership Grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the labor to plant the trees was provided by a collaboration of dedicated local volunteers.
A huge thank you to the volunteers from the Park Rapids Rotary Club, The Park Rapids Urban Forestry Committee, AmeriCorps & CCC, and the Hubbard County Master Gardeners for their green expertise. Thank you to Cheryl Wilke of Flying W Gardens for the planting demonstration and Christine Jessen and her staff from Forest and Floral for the great looking trees. Finally, thank you to the Park Rapids Public Works Department and DNR Forestry Division for the use of the watering trucks and Jerry Benham and the American Legion for having the hot coffee on!
Park Rapids has a great volunteer spirit and it is always great to see folks investing their time and energy to make this a little better place to live, work, and play.
