Letter: Thanks for support of fire victims
On Saturday, July 20, 2013, the residents of Menahga and our surrounding communities came together to help those affected by the Green Valley Fire. As a result, over $14,000 was raised! To pull off an event of this magnitude it takes many individuals, organizations and businesses doing their part to ensure everything runs smoothly. It also helped immensely that Mother Nature stepped in and gave us a beautiful day!
Thank you: Lamb Weston-RDO and employees for providing and frying the French fries; West Central Telephone and employees for grilling the chicken and hamburgers, as well as putting up and taking down the tents; Chuck’ Country Foods and Mason Brothers for the hamburgers; Gold’n Plump for the chicken; Pan-O-Gold and Sara Lee for the buns; Pepsi, Shell Sport and Bait and Ruby’s Pantry for the beverages; Ortons for the paper food trays; First National Bank of Menahga and Sebeka for the napkins and the Menahga-Sebeka Ministerial Association and the Menahga VFW and VFW Auxiliary for the beans and organizing all that went into serving the meal.
Thank you: To Menahga Marine & Rental, R & R Rental, Arnie Mattson, Dick Dissmore and Mike Isola for providing the tents; Howard’s Driveway for repairing the holes in the school parking lot; Menahga Fire Department and Menahga Lions for providing, setting up and taking down the picnic tables; and Lakes Area Service, G&T Sanitation and Arnie Mattson for providing the porta potties.
Thank you: Menahga Fire Fighters for the fire truck rides; Nichole Huotari for the artistic face painting; Menahga Lions, Caring Hands Home Care, Menahga Conservation Club; Relay for Life and Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Women for providing so many fun activities throughout the entire event and Wadena County DAC for donating buttons to sell.
Thank you: Menahga School District office staff and Kari Weise at Northway Insurance in Park Rapids for collecting items and to Education Minnesota Menahga for managing the silent auction. Also thank you to everyone who donated the many items and turned out to bid, which made for a very successful silent auction!
Thank you: Menahga C&C for sparking the movement; Mahube-Otwa Community Action Partnership and Sue Tomte for guidance on how to make this event happen; Redeemer Lutheran Church for developing a process; Menahga Student Council and student body for raising seed money for the cash boxes; Menahga School District custodial staff for setting up and then putting away what was needed inside the school; The Review Messenger, Park Rapids Enterprise and DeLaHunt Broadcasting for all the free advertising before the event and Friends in Christ Lutheran Church of Wadena for their significant donation.
As you can see, many individuals and organizations in our region donated their time and talents to show how very much Menahga and our surrounding communities care. Thank you to everyone who attended and donated. The Green Valley Fire Relief Board will determine how these funds will be dispersed.
