Letter: Thanks for donations to Afghanistan

A member of the Rotary Club of Park Rapids, Lt. Colonel David Konshok, is currently on deployment in Afghanistan. His command has been, collecting donations to supply food and clothing for local Afghans, who avail themselves of the services of the hospital on the Coalition Forces Base and need much of what we consider basics. The local Rotary has undertaken an effort to help them in their project.

To date, 68 boxes have been filled and sent with 37 more currently being packed and sent by individuals for a total of over 100 boxes. Most of the items are clothing for children with some toys, clothing for adults, and also some personal care items for our forces unavailable to them at their locations.

Special thanks go to Arvig, J&B Foods, New Life Community Church and individuals for generous cash donations, DAC for donations to fill and send 20 boxes, J&B Foods for providing $400 of goods at cost, and State Farm Insurance and the Park Rapids Enterprise for hosting collection boxes,

The extent of the benefit of these donations in winning the hearts of local Afghans will never be known, but we do know it will make a difference in the happiness and well being of local children and their needy families.
