Letter: PTA in need of new leadership to continue

Email

Century School PTA is taking a look into the 2014-15 school year. Assessing our needs we realized we are in a critical situation. We are losing quite a few long-term members and are in dire need of help. We have two available board member positions available for the next school year – president and vice president. If those positions don’t get filled - there will be no PTA. What does this mean? It means no more field trips. It means no more Holiday Shopping store. No more Halloween festivals. No more Bingo for Books or bouncy castles. No more Book Fairs. PTA provides a lot of great events for the students but we can’t do it without help!

We realize lives get busy, and often times hear “I don’t have time for PTA” so we want to highlight that you can put in as little or as much time as you choose. PTA generally meets every other month for 1-2 hours and we provide free childcare. It’s a great way to get involved and get to know people. To be a member of the PTA, or just be a volunteer, you don’t have to have children in the school- you can be a grandparent, retiree, aunt, uncle, brother, sister- anyone can join!

Our next meeting is Monday, March 10 at 6:30 pm in the Elementary Teacher’s Lounge. Our guest speaker will be Rhonda Lageson, founder of the Helping Hands program. If you are interested in seeing what PTA is about please join us on Monday. We would love to see some new faces!
