Letter: President Bush had resolve to defend U.S.

What a difference 11 years makes. On 9/11/01 this country was struck by a coordinated attack on its own soil and many lost their lives. Americans were shocked and outraged. Our President said three significant things in a speech delivered less than 12 hour after the attack; He called the attack evil and despicable, He said we would make no distinction between those who committed the acts and those who harbored them, He said we would win the war against terrorism.

On Tuesday, 9/11/12, this country was struck by an apparent coordinated attack on its own soil (yes a U.S. Embassy/Consulate is U.S. soil) and lives were lost including a U.S. Ambassador and at least two former Navy Seals. News of the attack was restricted and delayed by the U.S. Department of State and judging by the news reports, Americans were rather indifferent about the event.

Our President said three significant things in a speech delivered the following day from the attack. He condemned the attack, he said we would work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers (never mentioning Islamic terrorists, the War on Terror or our own responsibility to defend ourselves) and he said America rejects efforts to denigrate the faiths of others (evidently referring to the crude video produced in the U.S.), but did not defend the right of free speech of a free people as guaranteed under the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Love him or hate him, no one questions the resolve of President Bush to defend the United States and its citizens. Can we say the same about President Obama?
