Letter: Let's Go Fishing need funds to reach goal
The Let's Go Fishing pontoon boat has been tucked away for the winter. Although it will be 'out of sight' until spring, we don't want it to be 'out of mind.'
If you saw it sitting in the Ace Hardware parking lot this summer, you may have also noticed a large thermometer that was placed next to the boat. Thanks to donations from individuals and community groups we have raised approximately $20,000 so far. That is about half way to our goal.
We want to thank those who attended the fund-raising dinners we sponsored, those who attended our Bingo events at the Mantrap Valley clubhouse, and those who purchased tickets to the two raffles that we have held.
Clifford Kimball was the winner of the car that was so graciously donated by the Stewart Steele family in 2011 and Stephen Streed was the winner of the 4-wheeler that was raffled off last May.
We also want to thank those who donated time and funds for the Let's Go Fishing Walks that we have had each spring, those who have donated their time as volunteers on the boat, and Jill Dickenson and her staff at the Community Education office for scheduling each of the outings this past summer.
Nineteen outings took place between June and September. These trips included 171 individuals.
The Board of Directors for the Headwater's Chapter of Let's Go Fishing is holding an appreciation dinner for those volunteers from 5:30-7 p.m. today (Wednesday), Oct. 24 in the basement of Northwoods Bank.
The dinner will be followed by a meeting that will include a presentation highlighting the pontoon rides from 2011-2012 and a discussion of ways to expand our service next summer.
Let's Go Fishing is a wonderful program, but we need your help to insure its future. We still have to raise approximately $20,000 to retire the loan on the pontoon, so donations are always welcome. As an individual, please consider volunteering your time on the boat or on the Board of Directors.
As a community service group, please consider donations to the Headwater's Chapter of Let's Go Fishing or consider sponsoring the program as your yearly service project to the Senior Citizens in the Park Rapids area.
