Letter: Kinship anniversary picnic is Aug. 25

In celebration of connecting adults with kids and putting hope in their hearts for 20 years, the Kinship Board of Directors is hosting an anniversary picnic. They are pleased to invite all current and past Kinship kids and their families, mentors, reading buddies, board members and other volunteers, as well as all donors from 1992 to the present to Heartland Park on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.

Guests can meet and greet old and new friends, watch the final competitive event of the Amazing Chase teams, and enjoy a meal of brats or hotdogs, baked beans, veggies, chips and ice cream treats. There will be a freewill donation.

The Kinship Raffle drawing will take place at the picnic shelter at 5:30 pm. Northwoods Bank donated its fourth and final clubhouse to Kinship this year. The 6'x8' Amish built house has been parked at numerous businesses in Park Rapids, Nevis, Akeley and Osage since May. It has operating windows with screens, a full-sized side door, shorter front Dutch door, air vents and door locks. After the children or grandchildren outgrow it, it will make a wonderful potting shed or cute storage unit.

Additional prizes include a 42" carved bear donated by Trading Post, 100 fun tickets from Evergreen Gifts and Fun Park (formerly World of Christmas) and a $200 T&M Express Gift Card. Winners, in the order drawn, will choose their prize.

Tickets are still available from board members, at many businesses and J&B Foods Customer Service 24 hours/day through noon on the 24th. They will be for sale at Heartland Park on the 25th prior to the picnic and drawing. Everyone who buys a ticket wins - either one of the four prizes or by helping Kinship serve kids.

On behalf of the kids Kinship has and will serve, the board of directors and I wish to thank all of you in the community who have supported the program in any way. You are helping to make the world a better place, one child at a time.
