Letter: House bill to allow spearing
Minnesota House Bill H.F. 657, sponsored by Thomas Hackbarth (GOP-Cedar) and John Persell (DFL-Bemidji), has been read and referred to the House Environment and Natural Resources Policy committee.
This bill, if adopted, would repeal Minnesota Rule 6264.0400, Subpart 8 which is the law that restricts fish spearing on 8 lakes in Minnesota and includes Big Mantrap Lake. I believe the restriction was put in place on Mantrap to protect the Muskie population and there is no explanation in H.F. 657 as to why they want to lift the restriction.
Representative Steve Green is on the Environment and Natural Resourses Policy committee and if you have an opinion one way or the other on this, let him know at email@example.com.
