Letter: Friend passed away too soon
My friend Steve Wilkie lived on Eagle Lake near Park Rapids for the past 10 years. When he passed away suddenly on Feb. 19, his former wife and daughter chose to not put an obituary in your paper. I believe he deserves a mention in the newspaper.
When Stephen A. Wilkie passed away on Feb. 19, the Park Rapids community lost a very good friend and citizen. Steve, being an avid outdoorsman and nature lover, enjoyed living in his home on Eagle Lake. He spent his summers fishing the lake, golfing at Eagle View and cruising on his Harley. In the winter he liked snowmobiling with the guys from Nevis and bowling the lanes in Park Rapids and Bemidji. He worshipped at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Two Inlets, especially enjoying the Grotto.
Steve loved people and doing for others. He was a volunteer for the Living At Home program for seniors and the Kinship North program. This past summer he helped locate and relocate the playhouse to be raffled off. Besides being a kind, civic minded person, Steve was a successful, hard-working man who did everything he did, well - building homes, beautiful woodworking, and he was a very talented singer. Steve was the kind of man who expressed himself openly - you always knew where you stood with him. He loved to tell jokes, laugh and make others laugh.
To know Steve was to love him. He will be very sadly missed by the many friends and acquaintances he made here the last several years of his all too short life. Thanks, Steve.
