Letter: Elect conservatives to save our Republic

Give serious consideration to the following before voting in November.

Monica Crowly has these two significant paragraphs in her recent book titled, "What the (Bleep) Just Happened?"

"... America the idea is what has animated a way of life based not on government coercion but on the freedom of the individual, limited and constrained government, economic opportunity, personal generosity, tolerance and responsibility, community, faith, and human dignity. In their wisdom, the Founding Fathers crafted a philosophy first and then built a notion...

"...On the final day of deliberation at the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Benjamin Franklin descended the steps of Independence Hall. A woman approached him to ask what kind of government they had given us. 'A Republic,' he replied, 'If you can keep it.'"

From that date we have gone circuitously from bondage to liberty, to abundance, to complacency, to apathy and dependence with bondage down the road because we have allowed our government to stealthily steal our liberty and freedom.

We are experiencing an expanding nanny situation whereby government exercises increasing control over us. Government tells us what to eat and drink, what to do or not do with your property, what kind of appliances, toilets, heating systems and light bulbs to use, what kinds of toys, cribs, food and attire for children. They are in your car, gas tank, telephone, computer and they have a monopoly on education. Now they're working on marriage, energy and medical treatment control. With every control a segment of freedom is lost.

With controls government expands and taxes increase, resulting in less money for taxpayers own use, which stagnates our economy and job makers either quit or go elsewhere.

Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor, described the fall of a democracy as follows, "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time the voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidate who promises the most benefit from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy."

Critically evaluate what you heard at the recent political conventions and what you hear from and about all candidates before election day. Also seek information from various newspapers, TV networks, talk radio, magazines and books to become broadly informed. This election is vital to the type of future we want for our children and grandchildren and our country.

I hope you'll conclude, and have, we must elect conservative constitution supporting candidates to all offices from school boards to Washington, D.C. in order to save our Republic as proclaimed by Benjamin Franklin.
