Letter: Cravaack serves his district
A common talking point from critics of Congressman Chip Cravaack is that he has not lived up to his promise of being present and accountable to the district, but this is just another example of empty rhetoric and ignores the reality.
Since being elected, Congressman Cravaack has held 29 town hall meetings, 17 telephone town halls, and over 300 staff mobile office visits. The Duluth News Tribune wrote an editorial that showed he is in the district more than any other Minnesota U.S. Representative is in their districts. The fact is that the critics' claims don't live up to the rhetoric.
More importantly, Cravaack votes his district. He's not afraid to buck his party when needed. While in Congress he has voted for worker protections and his "Buy America" steel amendment that will create jobs and boost our mining economy. Chip Cravaack is not a typical politician and understands what small businesses and employers need to succeed, which is why the National Federation of Independent Business, the leading voice of small business in our country, endorsed him. Chip Cravaack also voted to preserve important programs like Medicare.
I am honored to have Chip as a friend. Please join me in supporting Chip Cravaack on Nov. 6.
