Letter: Cold War vets not included at Legion
It is a shame that American Legion membership is dwindling.
One of the reasons is that they refuse to include veterans of the Cold War in their membership. That’s right. Like myself, if you served your country during the Cold War, from January 1955 through February 1961 you are ineligible for membership! That leaves out a lot of persons who served during a time of great stress when we weren’t sure when “the bomb” would fall. Some of us served our years facing Russian troops across the Iron Curtain in Germany.
Thank heaven that the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) are here for us. Somehow I don’t feel sorry for the Legion.
