Leckner, who used a pair of 74s for a three-shot lead with nine holes to play, had to work overtime to earn his sixth club title as Husby's 34 on the third trip around the front side forced a sudden-death playoff.

Husby also started strong to take the early lead in this two-day tournament as birdies on No. 1 and No. 9 led to a 1-under par 35 on the front side Saturday. Leckner used a birdie on No. 4 to open with a 37 while Taylor Schroeder and Gary Marjama carded 38s.

Seven pars and a birdie on No. 12 on the back side led Leckner to another 37 and the first-day lead with a 74. Husby was one shot back at 75 while Schroeder and Jim Emerson ended Saturday's first round with 77s. Marjama was fifth at 78.

Leckner took control on the front side Sunday as birdies on No. 4 and No. 7 led to a 34. Husby fell seven shots back with a 40 while Emerson used a 37 to stay within six shots. Schroeder was also seven shots back after opening with a 38.

Birdies on No. 15, No. 17 and No. 18 helped Husby card an even-par 36 to close the gap. Leckner shot a 40 on the back side to carry a three-stroke lead into the final nine holes. Emerson shot a 38 to pull to within four shots while Schroeder carded a 38 and was five shots back in fourth place.

Eight pars on the final nine holes led Leckner to a 37. Husby was able to rally and force a playoff with a birdie on No. 1 and a birdie on No. 9. But Leckner used a birdie on the third playoff hole to win his sixth title. Leckner won his first club titles in 1982 and 1983 and added titles in 1989, 1998 and 2003.

Emerson finished third at 191 while Schroeder finished fourth at 194. Ron Litzau took fifth with a 196. Following were Marjama at 200, Lee Davis at 201, Ken Mackley at 2090 and Steve Paumen at 212.

A total of 12 golfers started off Saturday competing for the club title with nine playing all 45 holes.
