Lawrence's 93 leads Panthers at section meet
Park Rapids' Mindy Lawrence fell two shots short of qualifying for the state Class AA girls golf tournament.
Lawrence capped off her senior season by carding a career-best 93 at Tuesday's Section 8AA meet at Longbow Golf Course near Walker. Perham's Holly Karkela claimed the final state berth with a 91.
The Panthers finished fifth as a team with a 392. Mary Kading's 97, Kirsten Erickson's 98 and Hannah Williams' 104 led to Park Rapids' team score. The 392 marked the seventh time the Panthers shot under 400 this season and was one shot better than their 393 for third place at the North Subsection 8AA meet.
Crookston used Lindsay Morgan's 84, Monica Wold's 87 and Rachel Wold's 88 to win the team title with a 352. That was 21 strokes ahead of Perham's 373. Detroit Lakes and East Grand Forks both carded 380s and Pelican Rapids carded a 416.
Roseau's Emily Hallie shot an 82 to earn medalist honors. The other individual state qualifiers were Detroit Lakes' Robin Hutchinson, Fergus Falls' Amber Hovland and Perham's Leah Richter.
