Law Library needs help from criminal offenders
Hubbard County's law library is running in the red.
That means persons running afoul of the law will soon foot the bill.
Facing a $2,600 deficit, the County Law Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to increase the law library fee for petty misdemeanors from $5 to $10.
The board said that rate "is comparable to what neighboring counties assess."
The library brings in revenues of $1,300 monthly, but costs for legal research materials run nearly $1,000 a month. That doesn't include periodic book costs.
If approved by the county commission, the fee will rise July 1.
