Lakers score twice in third period to top Panthers
Randa Larsen and Hailey Sonstegard scored in the third period to lift Detroit Lakes to a 3-1 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
After Larsen scored a shorthanded goal at the 7:03 mark of the first period, Mady Vaudrin set up Alex Pederson for a power-play goal 18 seconds later as the Panthers tied the game at 1-1.
Detroit Lakes goalie Veronica Badurek and Park Rapids goalie Shania Johnson kept the game tied with a scoreless second period before Emily Seebold assisted on Larsen’s game-winning goal and Sydney Harran set up Sonstegard’s insurance goal in the third period.
Badurek finished with 28 saves as the Lakers improved to 1-3-1. Johnson made 32 saves as the Panthers fell to 2-4.
