Lakers oust Panthers in 8AA playoffs
A four-run fourth inning carried Detroit Lakes to a 6-4 win over Park Rapids in the first round of the Section 8AA baseball playoffs Thursday at Detroit Lakes.
Paul Dirks singled and scored in both the first and third innings to give Park Rapids a 2-1 lead.
The No. 2-seeded Lakers strung together three singles to take a 5-2 lead in the fourth before the No. 7-seeded Panthers responded by scoring twice in the fifth. Levi Erickson was hit by a pitch and Nick Belfiori singled to set up Paul Dirks' RBI single and Sam Coborn's run-scoring grounder.
Detroit Lakes added an insurance run in the bottom of that inning to seal the win.
Kevin McMorrow took the loss, allowing four earned runs in a complete-game effort as the Panthers ended the season with a 9-12 mark.
Detroit Lakes defeated Perham 6-1 in Saturday's second round to advance to the Section 8AA semifinals.
