Kick'n Up Kountry music festival returns June 14-16 at Karlstad, Minn.
Country music stars Mark Chestnutt, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and more, along with golf, chariot races, karaoke and wrestlers will be on the agenda for the Kick'n Up Kountry music festival June 14-16 at Karlstad, Minn.
Jody Kirkeide, winner of last year's Kick'n Up Kountry karaoke contest, will perform June 14 at 7:15 p.m., followed by the Ozark Jubilee Show from Branson, Mo. Country Storm will start things off at 3:30 p.m. June 15, followed by David Church, The Bellamy Brothers and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
On June 16, the festival main stage will feature Eagle Creek at 3:30 p.m., followed by Australia's No. 1 country music group, the McClymonts, Blackhawk and Mark Chestnut.
Each night after the main stage, the Squeaky Spoke Saloon will feature entertainment as well: Josh Whitlow and the Pick Six band on Thursday, Eagle Creek on Friday and Smokehouse on Saturday.
Special events for the three-day festival will be a golf tournament, chariot races, performances by the adult and Little Kicker karaoke winners, all-star wrestling, a lumberjack show, lawnmower races and the Tom Knapp sharpshooter show.
Kailee Vigen, of Thief River Falls, is the winner of the karaoke contest for ages nine to 13 and Shyanna Kaml, of Bemidji, is the winner of the 14 to 18 age group. The adult winner will be chosen June 1 at the Karlstad Eagles Club.

The Kick'n Up Kountry music festival was founded in 2004 at Hallock, Minn., and from 2007 to 2010 was held at the Pennington County Fairgrounds in Thief River Falls. Last year, the festival moved to Wagon Wheel Ridge, one mile west of Karlstad, Minn. The festival also changed the date of the three-day event in 2011, from its traditional Labor Day Weekend spot to mid-June.
